Lurking Water is a 2D top down horror game. In which the player wakes up in a submarine that is careening down into the abyss of the ocean. The player has to keep the submarine functioning as they watch the various shadowy horrors outside the windows.

This game was a submission for second Willard & Maple Creator's Jam "Shadows".

While working on this game I was heavily inspired by a Lovecraft horror story about a submarine that has been cursed to sink at the bottom of the ocean, with the crew growing mad the farther it sinks. I wanted to recreate the very cramped and claustrophobic feeling of an actual submarine and so I made the players vision be heavily tied to the submarines lighting. Outside of the ship, since there was no light, the shadows where pressed heavily into the wall. This essential created the outline of the submarine itself for the player. When the lights would fail and the player had to go fix them, the shadows engulf almost the entire screen, essentially absorbing the whole submarine.
